Luxor from Hurghada in a day: the coach or the VIP minibus?
Both visit Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple with a licensed Egyptologist. The difference is the size of the group, and an hour of the day.
Luxor is the one long day most visitors to Hurghada are glad they made. Both of our Luxor day trips go to the same three places — Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple — with a licensed Egyptologist, lunch at a local restaurant and entry to those sites in the price. The choice between them is about the group, not the itinerary.
The coach
Luxor by coach travels on a full-size coach, which is what keeps it at the group price. It is about sixteen hours door to door from a very early pick-up, across the desert road with a rest stop each way.
The VIP minibus
Luxor VIP visits the same sites with the same kind of guide, in a fourteen-seat air-conditioned minibus instead of a forty-five-seat coach. A smaller group means less time spent gathering people at each stop, and there is free time for photographs and the bazaar. It is about fifteen hours from a very early start.
Either way, bring
- Your passport — it is checked at the road checkpoints.
- Comfortable shoes you can walk all day in, a hat, sunglasses and sun cream.
- A light jacket for the early start.
- Cash for the extras and the bazaar. Going inside an optional extra tomb is not in the price.
Two days rather than one
If one painted ceiling leaves you wanting another, Luxor and Dendera adds a second day at the Temple of Dendera, which has the best-preserved ceiling in Egypt and a fraction of the crowd. Both days cross the desert road with a licensed Egyptologist. The rest of our long days, Cairo included, are on the day trips page.
