About this trip

Turtle Bay, south of Marsa Alam, where the turtles and the dugong feed in the seagrass — and you snorkel to them straight off the beach rather than from a boat.

It is a twelve-hour day and most of that is the coast road past Safaga and Marsa Alam, with a rest stop each way and a very early pick-up. Twenty places. A long way for one bay, and the seagrass is the reason people count it worth going.

How the day goes

  • Very early pick-up from your hotel — Abu Dabbab is a long way south.
  • The coast road past Safaga and Marsa Alam, with a rest stop on the way.
  • Arrival at the bay, and the briefing before anybody goes in.
  • Snorkelling straight off the beach, over the seagrass where the turtles feed.
  • Lunch, and free time on the sand.
  • The drive back, reaching Hurghada in the evening.

The turtles are wild. They are seen on most days and nobody can promise them.
Touching, chasing or riding a turtle is not allowed. The guide will say so again in the water.
The trip depends on the weather and the state of the sea.
